NOW ENROLLING FOR FEBRUARY 2024!

Welcome

We are delighted that you have chosen our Education Center to provide for the needs of your child. You and your family are encouraged to visit our center prior to the first day of enrollment to give our teachers, and your child, an opportunity to meet and become better acquainted. It will make separating on the first day a bit easier.

The FAQS page has been written to describe our program, policies, and all the practical details that go into making each day as happy and successful as possible.

The staff at TMHS would be glad to address any of your questions or concerns.

Once again, welcome!

Capacity & Class Sizes

Capacity

The TMHS may enroll up to a maximum of 375 children per day. As of December 2023, the Center has 7 Classrooms and 5 more are under construction.

Group Sizes and Ratios

Our program adheres to the group size and ratios as set forth by the Uganda Ministry of Education.

Nursery: Maximum of 20 children per classroom and 2 adults to children ratio 1:10.

Primary: Maximum of 45 children per classroom and 1adult to children ratio 1:45

Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the Uganda Ministry of Education Learning Standards. Activities are age appropriate and balanced between teacher directed and child directed learning activities. Your child’s backpack will not come home stuffed with worksheets and coloring pages each day.

Nursery Program

Our Nursery rooms consist of only 20 children per classroom (20 children with 1 teacher & 1 assistant) which enables the staff to give more individualized care. We promote interactions and social skills through; socialization with peers, how to play in a group, how to share and take turns.

We provide a safe, loving print rich environment that will foster emergent reading and also experiences that will foster your child's desire to learn new things at their own space. Materials are selected accurately to stimulate children’s curiosity and hunger to learn.

We stimulate children’s curiosity through the day with circle time, paint; story time, singing, structured play, free play, indoor and outdoor activities.

Very young children struggle for independence; our teachers are prepared to guide each child to learn to be more independent and at the same time to be safe with themselves as well as with others.

We encourage children to explore in a safe manner.

Primary School Program

Our primary program has a daily schedule and routine that provides each child with an opportunity to have experiences in a warm, relaxed and flexible atmosphere.

The primary school program will provide a range of age-appropriate activities that include art, music, circle time, reading time, writing center, dramatic play area, block area, and large and other activities where the children can explore, challenge themselves and interact with others.

At this level, pre-writing and pre-reading are introduced to children in a simple and easy way. Phonic sounds are presented to children with flash cards and group games. Materials are placed at children’s level in order for them to select the next activity with very minimal help. We want children to build confidence and self-esteem.

Throughout the day, primary school children are taught proper health habits such as washing hands and cleaning up after ourselves. All of these different activities will develop a child's creative ability. In such a positive atmosphere, the children will learn to gain respect for themselves and others and while becoming self-reliant. The children will grow with a positive attitude through their early childhood years.

Nondiscrimination Policy

In providing services to children and their families, TMHS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, disability, cultural heritage, political beliefs, marital status, national origin or sexual orientation in accordance with Ugandan Law.

Unexpected Closings

On a rare occasion our center may be forced to close due to a situation beyond our control (e.g., heavy rains, electrical outage, no water service).

Every attempt will be made to inform parents as soon as possible of an emergency closing to allow families to prepare.

If the weather becomes severe after the Center has opened for the day, the Center may determine that an early closure is in order to ensure the safety of children and staff as they travel home. If the Center must close early, parents will be called with as much notice as possible.

If there is a ‘State of Emergency’, the Center will be closed.

Closures or delayed openings will be communicated in two ways: via email to all enrolled families and via the voicemail greeting on the main Center telephone line (0782 576396).

Sexual and Other Unlawful Harrasment

Sexual harassment is not tolerated in any way, shape or form.

The Mission Hill School is committed to providing a work environment that is free of discrimination and unlawful harassment. Actions, words, jokes, or comments based on an individual’s sex, race, ethnicity, age, religion or any other legally protected characteristic will not be tolerated. As an example, sexual harassment (both overt and subtle) is a form of employee misconduct that is demeaning to another person, undermines the integrity of the employment relationship and is strictly prohibited.

Any employee who wants to report an incident of sexual or other unlawful harassment should promptly report the matter to the Owner/Director. Employees can raise concerns and make reports without fear of reprisal.

Corporal Punishment is the inflection of physical pain on a child as a means of controlling behavior. This includes, but is not limited to, spanking, hitting, shaking slapping, thumping, or pinching a child. (This will not be tolerated at all).

Child Abuse Prevention Policy

The mission of The Mission Hill School is to nurture all children entrusted to our care in a warm and loving environment. In keeping with that purpose, this policy seeks to assure that our center is continually working toward providing an environment safe from physical and sexual abuse for those participating in receiving and providing childcare services. All employees shall seek to provide open lines of communication with parents. We will operate with an open door policy allowing parent access to programs at any time. When those who are employed at The Mission Hill School engage in any and all kind types of child abuse, sexual exploitation, or sexual harassment, they violate the terms of their employment.
